Researchers have found that statins (substances that lower cholesterol levels in the blood) can have preventive effects on breast cancer.

Scientists for 14 years studied the possible relationship of these two diseases on the example of 1 million people. Similar conclusions allowed to make experiments in laboratory rodents. Mice with a low cholesterol concentration developed less cancer. By the way, for this reason, obese people with high cholesterol levels often detect oncological diseases.

In the course of the study, more than 6 million women were examined, 530 of them had high cholesterol and breast cancer was simultaneously detected. It was found that elevated cholesterol more than one and a half times increases the risk of developing breast cancer. Now the task of scientists - to find out help to solve this problem statins.

If research succeeds, scientists will get a fairly cheap and effective way to combat breast cancer.
