Keeping poultry or animals is a rather complicated and troublesome affair. Very often there are situations when you need to quickly make a new drinker yourself. However, it is not always at hand that you have all the necessary materials, but if you have ordinary plastic bottles at home, this problem can be solved easily and quickly! So, how do you make drinkers from plastic bottles with your own hands?
Types of drinkers
There are several types of drinking bowls that are used on farm estates.
Machine
1) most often these are complex automatic devices used mainly on large farms;
2) water is poured into large stainless steel tanks, which then passes into the container, where it is distributed;
3) a flushing system and floats are set up in such a tank, and tubular lines are connected to it, which are connected to all cells;
4) at the end of the tubes are attached devices convenient for animals or birds, from which they drink;
5) the water flows into them regularly, and thanks to the floats, the water level in the devices is always monitored, and when it ends the valve opens automatically, therefore, the bird always has clean water in exactly the amount that it needs.
It’s very difficult to build such drinking bowls yourself, and if you wish, you can buy them in special stores.
Semiautomatic device
1) this type of drinkers is filled from additional containers, which can serve as a simple plastic bottle;
2) devices for drinking are fastened in pens or cages, clamps are prepared for bottles;
3) the water in the container is regulated by means of a lower clamp;
4) you need to mount such a device at a height of several meters;
5) So that the container is not filled with litter and feces of animals, the protrusions in the cages should not be more than 3 cm (for rabbits).
Nipple
1) most farmers prefer these designs, since it is not difficult to make them, and the water in them is always clean and fresh;
2) an unusual ball is installed in the drinkers - a nipple. When animals touch him with his tongue, water begins to flow from him;
3) a very important advantage of such structures is that the animals will not be able to spill or pollute their water in any way;
4) there are also disadvantages, but they are insignificant. For example, since such structures are small in volume, water will have to be added more often. In winter, make sure that the water in the tanks does not freeze.
Do-it-yourself drinkers from plastic bottles: design features
Making a drinker out of plastic bottles with your own hands is not at all a difficult task. Its main advantages are simplicity in manufacturing, lack of hassle when filling and comfort for the bird.
Since birds can easily throw an overly light capacity, you need to make sure that they have enough weight for stability. Also, during an “attack” on a drinker, birds can quickly pollute it, so you also need to worry about keeping the water in them clean.
There is also such a moment. The material from which the drinkers will be prepared should perfectly tolerate a humid environment, and its edges should not be too pointed. Therefore, plastic remains the best option: it does not oxidize and remains completely safe for birds.
Plastic is a very cheap and practical material, and containers from it are present in almost every yard. An ordinary 5 liter bottle with a hole or a nipple drinker made on the basis of the same container may be suitable as a drinking bowl. The process of making drinkers from plastic bottles with your own hands
So, we have come to the most important thing - how to build drinkers from plastic containers? There are several options that are very easy to prepare.
Fast drinker
To make it we need:
5 l plastic bottle;
a bowl, tray, or other similar container;
pointy knife.
Next, you need to do the following:
1) We take a prepared plastic container of 5 l and make a small hole in it at a height of 18-20 cm from the base;
2) We fill it with water, while closing the hole with a finger;
3) After that, put it in a pre-prepared container and open the hole. Water will flow out of it to the level of the hole, and will replenish as water flows out.
Nipple drinker
To build a nipple drinker, we need such things:
5 liter plastic bottle;
nipples according to the number of plastic containers;
an awl or other tool for making holes.
When everything is ready, you need to do this:
We make a hole in the lid of the container by means of an awl and insert a nipple into it;
I will cut the bottom of the bottle so that in the future it will be easier to add water there;
We hang the drinker in the paddock and that's it!
Vacuum device
There is another device that is made of two plastic containers - a vacuum drinking bowl.
To build it yourself, we need:
5 l plastic bottle;
The same bottle, but smaller (suitable for 1.5 or 2 liters);
Several screws for fastening.
To make such a design, you need to do the following:
1) to start with a 5 liter bottle, you need to cut off the neck in such a way that such a bowl comes out;
2) then you need to take a smaller container, install it inside our bowl and fix it with self-tapping screws so that the necks of both bottles converge in one place;
3) after that, in a container with a smaller volume, several punctures should be made a level lower than the sides of the bowl, through them water will pass into the drinking bowl;
4) through the neck of a smaller container you need to pour water, turn over our homemade drinker and fix it in any convenient place. Done!
As you can see, making home-made drinkers from plastic containers is a very simple task and everyone can do it, all that is needed is a few plastic bottles and a little desire.
